For this installation I had the pleasure to collaborate with the musician Klas Eriksson who wrote this music piece for this video. He is a member of the Swedish band Storstan, which is a New Orleans style street party brass band.

Migration In the Anthropocene

The Anthropocene can be translated as the human age after the Greek anthropos, for “human,” and “cene,” meaning “new”. The Anthropocene is a proposed geological epoch in which human-kind is the primary cause of permanent planetary change. It would thereby replace the Holocene, which we have been living in since it began 11,700 years ago after the last major ice age.

We humans displace and change the constituents of our earth like no other being. With our inventions we transform the natural world into an artificial world controlled by mankind. We are transforming the earth's biomass into human mass.

The title of the exhibition, Migration in the Anthropocene, alludes to the fact that ecosystems are on the run from a human vision for the world. It refers to the movements that take place when the earth warms up, which also changes our identity. The title aims to give all planetary constituents an intrinsic value.

We humans often demand a motivation for why something should exist, what we should have a plant or an animal for, how they should serve us. A raison d'être that strikes back at our own well-being. So what is our answer, if all the plants, animals, lakes, seas, mountains, glaciers, air and atmosphere of the world should ask us - What is your reason for being?

Migration In the Anthropocene

Antropocene kan översättas med "människans tidsålder" efter grekiskans antropos som betyder människa och cen som betyder ny. Antropocen är en föreslagen geologisk epok där människan är orsaken till permanent planetär förändring. Den skulle då ersätta Holocen som vi har levt i sedan senaste istiden tog slut för ca 11 700 år sedan.

Vi människor förflyttar och ändrar om vår jords beståndsdelar som ingen annan varelse. Med våra uppfinningar förändrar vi den naturliga världen till en artificiell värld kontrollerad av människan. Vi förvandlar jordens biomassa till människomassa.

Utställningens titel, "Migration In the Anthropocene", anspelar på att ekosystemen är på flykt från människans vision för världen. Den syftar till de förflyttningar som sker när jorden värms upp, vilket också förändrar vår identitet. Titeln syftar till att ge alla planetära beståndsdelar ett egenvärde.

Vi människor kräver ofta en motivering till varför något ska få finnas, vad vi ska ha en växt eller ett djur till, hur de ska tjäna oss. Ett existensberättigande som slår tillbaka på vårt eget välbefinnande. Så vad är svaret, om världens samtliga växter, djur, sjöar, hav, berg, glaciärer, luft och atmosfär frågade oss - Vad är ni till för?

Utställningen anknyter till Agenda 2030 de 17 hållbarhetsmålen som antogs av FN 2015. I synnerhet mål 13, bekämpa klimatförändringarna.
